Genetic analysis for thrombophilia and haematological conditions
Thrombophilia refers to an increased tendency to form blood clots. Genetic and laboratory assessment may be considered when indicated by the personal or family history and the clinical question.
Assessment may be considered for:
- venous thrombosis at a young age;
- recurrent or unexplained thrombosis;
- a strong family history of thrombosis; or
- thrombosis in unusual sites, when referred by a clinician.
Relevant analyses can include evaluation of inherited thrombophilia-related variants and other tests selected by the treating physician. Results must be interpreted together with clinical findings and should not be used without medical advice.
