Predisposition genetics

Genetic analysis can provide information about inherited predisposition to selected health conditions. The appropriate test depends on the personal and family history and is recommended by a healthcare professional.

What the assessment considers

  • family history and patterns of disease;
  • the individual’s medical history and relevant findings;
  • the clinical question and the genes or panel most appropriate for it; and
  • the need for genetic counselling and appropriate follow-up.

Results are not a diagnosis on their own. They should be interpreted with the referring clinician, who can explain any implications and recommended next steps.
